Whatever you current experience of traveling around the US, you are bound to have found that there are some states that you still haven’t visited, and which you would like to very much. The US is so varied, and in a way you can really say that it is like visiting fifty different countries in one, as there is such a sense of statehood there. It’s a big country out there and visiting all the 50 states is definitely a bucket list accomplishment! Even the most well-traveled American will find a few gaps. However, the difficulty here is in knowing which states you might want to visit, as each of them offer you something new. In this post, I’ll try and help you out by looking at just a few of the states which aren’t usually on tourists’ radar but which you have to visit if you are going on a trip around the US. Let’s take a look and see if any of these still need to b crossed off your list.

Colorado

One of the great things about traveling America is the huge variance there is between different places in terms of the climate and the landscape. For instance, if you want to see some of the world’s most beautiful mountains, then you can do so by visiting Colorado and its stunning Rockies. This is a famous sight in the USA, and it’s likely you have already visited, but if not then you will certainly want to make sure that you do so at some point in your life. But moving beyond the Rockies, there is so much more still to be seen in Colorado, and it’s something that you will want to consider when you are looking at where to next go in the USA. Whether you want to stay at a beautiful hotel in Montrose, Colorado, or you are just hoping to take some strolls through the countryside, you’ll find it all in this glorious and sometimes under-represented state.

Texas

Arguably one of the most visited states in the US, Texas is still also likely to be bogged down by misinformation and misrepresentation on many occasions. If you have never been to Texas, you might have a particular image in your head which, in all chances, could not actually marry up well with the reality. The only way to find out for yourself is to take a trip there, and doing so is bound to show you something that you would never have expected of the underbelly of this fascinating state. It is one of the true hearts of America, and no trip around the states would really be complete without it, so make sure you have this on your bucket list.

Washington

Washington state just has so much going for it that you would be amiss to miss out on it. If you are wondering which states to travel to for the perfect combination of both natural beauty and amazing cities, then Washington could be all you need to go and see. If nothing else, it is the home to the stunning city of Seattle, which is truly one of the cultural hubs of the country and possibly even the world. Visiting will be a definite bucket list moment.

Which other US states do you think should be added to the “where I’ve been” map? Tell me in the comments below!
