Last evening, V and I went to watch the World Premiere of Hood: The Robin Hood Musical Adventure. While I have always loved watching plays and musicals (I’m a culture vulture), V got introduced to them through me and now he prefers them to the movies. He even loved a ballet we watched last Christmas! I thank my lucky stars! 😀
Dallas has a good theater scene and once in a while they come up with something that’ll just leave you positively astounded. Hood: The Robin Hood Musical Adventure is one such show. It’s a musical comedy written and directed by five-time Tony-nominated playwright Douglas Carter Beane and music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn.
You’d be hard pressed to find someone who’s never heard of Robin Hood. He’s the world’s sexiest thief, history’s great lover. He’s that staple of English folklore known for taking from the rich to give to the poor. He almost makes stealing and robbing seem cool. The musical is a hilarious and stirring twist on the ancient legend of Robin Hood, with a lesson you can take back home with you – “There’s a hero in your heart.” Robin Hood’s story is one of rebellion, hope and love and the musical depicts that in the most beautiful way, complete with great performers, gorgeous music that you’ll come out of the show singing or at least humming, brilliant choreography and fun puppets. We loved it so much!
If you live in Dallas, do catch a show. We have a long weekend coming up and this should be on your to-do list. Also, it’s meant for all ages.
